Why in the world would I publish a web page about phono preamps in 2017?  Good question... but in the old the customer is always right people keep asking about designs I did back last century when vinyl was a viable medium for playback.

Not counting my DIY projects my first commercial phono preamp was a DJ mixer kit in 1978 (featured on the cover of Popular Electronics). It was a fairly unremarkable design based around the National Semi LM387 a good for that time bipolar op amp. Since I am never satisfied to just follow application notes, I did one thing unique in the RIAA EQ,
